Sania Mirza & Rohan Bopanna enter MIXED Doubles Semifinal

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna will be in action today against Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski in the Mixed Doubles – semi final!

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have advanced to the semifinals in Mixed Doubles at the Australian Open. The Indian pair received a walkover after their opponents Jelena Ostapenko and Vega Hernandez withdrew ahead of the match. The Indian duo entered the quarter finals after defeating the Uruguayan and Japanese pair of Ariel Behar and Makato Ninomiya 6-4, 7-6 (11-9).

Sania is playing her last grand slam event. The six-time grand slam champion announced earlier this month that she will retire at the Dubai Tennis Championships which begins on February 19.

By reaching the semifinals, the Indian Tennis star now have a realistic chance of adding another Grand Slam title to her name before her retirement. The Indian pair began the tournament with a straight set win over Australia’s Jaimee Fourlis and Luke Saville in the first round.

The reason for Jelena Ostapenko and Vega Hernandez’s withdrawal is not yet known. However earlier in the day Ostapenko suffered a straight set loss against Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of Women’s Singles.

Earlier in the tournament, Sania Mirza’s campaign in women’s doubles came to an end. Sania and her Kazakh partner AnnaDanilina ended their campaign after suffering a loss at the hands of the Ukrainian-Belgian duo of Alison VanUytvanck and Anhelina Kalinina in the second-round.
