Position Summary:
This role will be responsible for player development strategies within the NBA’s Elite Basketball Development program in India. This includes the oversight, administration, and execution of the NBA’s strategy to improve instruction and basketball infrastructure in India and guide talented players on the optimal pathway to success on and off the court. This role requires significant experience in basketball coaching or operations and a high level of knowledge of the Indian and international basketball landscape.
Major Responsibility:
- Work closely with the NBA New York office, as well as the Global Elite Basketball Development Advisory Committee, to formulate and drive the strategy and program to develop top young Indian prospects into NBA stars
- Assist with the hiring and placement of NBA-hired basketball development coaches and strength coaches at NBA partner sports schools/bureaus in India
- Serve as the primary point of contact at the NBA India office for coaches deployed throughout the country Assist with the management of NBA Youth Academies, train-the-trainer sessions, and other programming to reach high number of young prospects
- Oversee NBA Training Center elite development programming in India, including the selection of elite youth teams, training curriculums, and competition schedules (national & international)
- Coordinate Basketball without Borders selection and/or placement of top performing players in NBA High Performance Center Ensure that the quality of facilities (residential and athletic) and nutrition are up to NBA standards for players selected for and enrolled in NBA Training Centers in India
- Assist with the management of academic plans and college tuition funds for players selected for and enrolled in NBA Training Centers Manage relationships with program sponsors
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- 5-7 years’ experience with elite basketball (playing, coaching, talent evaluation, on-court programming etc.)
- 3-5 years’ experience in creating, planning, and executing all aspects of basketball development programs and events (youth clinics, coaching clinics, camps, seminars, grassroots, etc.)
- A successful track record of developing, enhancing and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external clients
- Creative, strategic thinker – able to shape, develop and execute global strategy International thinker and operator – appreciative of and well-versed in other cultures and business practices
- Extensive knowledge of the international basketball landscape and the NBA’s international business and league operations, in particular in India
- A thorough understanding of the youth sports landscape and elite basketball landscape in India and internationally
- Experience delivering basketball coaching at a high level to elite youth players and coaches
- Ability to build a network of contacts throughout the Indian sports landscape that will help maintain solid partnerships for the NBA Detail oriented and well-organized
- Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple on-going projects
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new computer programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Polished presentation skills Proven professionalism with confidential information Ability to work well within a team environment Passion for basketball
- Hindi language skills strongly preferred|
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required
