Commonwealth Games 2022: India’s Saurav Ghosal storms into squash semi-final.

Saurav Ghosal has managed to reach the semi-final of the Commonwealth Games for the first time since Glasgow 2014. Ghosal dropped just one set in the quarter-final.

India’s ace squash player Saurav Ghosal was cool as a cucumber in the men’s quarterfinals defeating Scotland’s Greg Lobban on Monday, 1 August. Saurav Ghosal, who is ranked number 15 in the men’s division maintained his calm despite a frustrating night out against an opponent, who kept trying to gain advantage using his body. Many a times,

Ghosal was left frustrated after Lobban tried to gain advantage, citing obstruction. However, the veteran squash player used his experience to tire out the Scott, who seemed to get flustered at the later stages.

Ghosal started out the first set in a dominating manner, winning it by 11-5. However, a frustrating 8-11 lost in the second stage sent things back to square once again.

The third set was where Ghosal truly brought on his A game, turning and twisting in the squash court, keeping his opponent guessing. With the Scottish opponent getting riled up and losing the sense of things, Ghosal once again played a near perfect game, clinching the fourth set 11-3.

At the end of the match, the score stood 3-1 in favour of Ghosal. This will be the veteran’s first ever semi-final since Glasgow 2014.
