Saudi club Al Hilal makes world record $300m bid for Mbappé

After failing to secure Lionel Messi’s signing, Saudi Arabia is reportedly now targeting Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. A Saudi club, specifically Al Hilal, is said to have initiated the recruitment process and offered PSG a staggering transfer fee of $300 million. If this amount holds true, it would surpass the previous world record set when PSG acquired Neymar for $247 million in 2017.

While the transfer fee details have been disclosed, the specifics of Mbappe’s potential contract remain unclear. The 24-year-old French captain had previously stated in May that he does not wish to extend his PSG contract, which expires next year, but expressed a desire to stay for one final season. This would allow him to become a free agent next summer and leave PSG without a transfer fee, a prospect deemed “impossible” by club president Nasser Al Khelaifi, who gave Mbappe a two-week ultimatum to decide on signing a new contract or leaving this summer.

Amidst the contract dispute, Mbappe was left out of the PSG squad for their pre-season tour in Asia. As the club’s all-time top scorer with an impressive record of 212 goals in 260 appearances, Mbappe remains the second most expensive player in history. His journey with PSG began when he joined the team on a season-long loan from Monaco in August 2017 as a teenager, and the move became permanent the following year in a deal worth 180 million euros ($200 million).
